I received an email from our agency today that while our birthmother's location has been know for awhile, it wasn't until this week that she has been able to return to the province to fix the error in the paperwork. I am happy to say that this week it should happen!! I also happy that the agency is looking to the future and how to make the remainder of the process go as smoothly as possible, for both her, and us.
What the future holds for us....
Once she redoes the paper, it will need to go to the main International Adoption Dept in Hanoi. Our agency doesn't think they will keep it there long. I hope they are correct!
Then the paper has to be picked up by our agency and sent to CA. THEN we can file and it all will be sent back to Hanoi. About a week after the US Embassy receives it, they will acknowledge it and request a DNA test. The kit will be mailed to the Embassy in Hanoi that day. They schedule the test. I am hoping that they will schedule this ASAP since it will be the last from that province. The Embassy and the lab have been working VERY efficiently the last couple of months and I am PRAYING that it continues that way for us!
Then the sample is sent to the US, results in a week or two. Results emailed to us and then sent to the Embassy. About 2 weeks for approval. Leave a week or so later.
While we will miss Jacob's 1st Birthday on March 3rd, we are hoping to go get him in April. There are many families that will be traveling in the coming weeks. We are hoping that someone in the orphanage will have some pity for us and our delays and maybe allow one of the other PAPs the chance to see him. This is not something that is done very much though and we understand why. These babies are VERY healthy and haven't had a lot of the sicknesses that have been experienced in other orphanages, so we respect the fantastic way that they are caring for and protecting the children there. Maybe staff can borrow one of the PAP's cameras for some new photos, or maybe a video!
