We had our medical statements done last July for our homestudy. About a month ago, our caseworker mentioned to her clients that they expire after 6 months, so we should get them redone since they need to be current when we are referred a baby. For some reason, when I read her email, I was thinking a year. I mentioned it to her and she agreed that we should be OK then. Duh....it was 6 months, not a year! This past weekend, another PAP (prospective adoptiove parent) from our agency and I were emailing back and forth and something snapped in me and I realized it was 6 months and I would have to get them redone. I confirmed it with my caseworker and got to work on this task that was TERRIBLE to do the first time!!
I tried to make it as easy for them as possible. Instead of giving them the sample letter and asking them to retype it with our names, correctly, I retyped last year's letters myself and asked them to have the doctors sign them and notarize them. I even told them that I could notarize them myself if it was a problem, since that was a HUGE problem last year.
They called that they were ready the next morning!! I picked them up that afternoon and they were neat, signed, but NOT notarized. No problem. I had them notarized this afternoon and sent them off to the State Capital to be apostilled. They will send them back to us this week, hopefully, and they they are off to the Vietnam Consulate in San Francisco to be authenticated, then to our agency in CA. Then to Hanoi to be translated.
This whole procedure should take a couple of weeks and about $200!!!
*** They were delivered to Harrisburg Thursday morning. I realized this afternoon, that I didn't address them attn: to anyone in particular, like I did with our I-171H, so I hope they still do it quickly.
